MK+A (again)

I love them. We all know I do. It's mildly sick but I'm not ashamed. They are adorable and so fashionable. I envy everything they wear. (Even the weird, sloppy outfits.) I even love them more than I love Lebron.(Probably because there's double the people to love.) I wonder if they would consider adopting a 25 year old fangirl??

Out with the old..

Today is my last day at my first ever big girl job. It's definitely had it's ups and downs but overall it was a great first job. Just towards the end did I really get annoyed and ready to move on. I'm excited to have some time off but I won't lie, I'm a little sad/scared too. What if my next job isn't filled with people that adore me like all these little old ladies?? I need to be loved, people! It will be very bittersweet to walk out of here one last time today. I said all my goodbyes yesterday when everyone took me to lunch and I felt like such a chump. These sweet old ladies that have been driving me up the damn wall actually gave me going away presents! Anyone that knows me knows I love a present but those made me feel so guilty. Luckily, my boss is out today and my co-worker is leaving early so I can just leave at 5 without a dramatic ending to the last 3 years.

I guess it could be worse, my last day could be as sad as Michael Scott's.

The Perks

Stop what you are doing and go see The Perks of Being a Wallflower right now. I'm not kidding! Get your ass up and go! Having read and loved the book in high school, I had a pretty good idea that I would love the movie (unless they totally screwed it up somehow!) and I can honestly say I did. The cast was PERFECTION! This is the second non-Hermione role that I've seen Emma Watson in (My Week with Marilyn was the first) and I'm in love with her. I just want to hug her and call her my bestie, she's so adorable.

Although my husband called the movie depressing, I didn't quite feel that way. But I guess that's because I knew what to expect. In my defense, I did suggest he read the book prior to the movie. One day that man will finally listen to all my advice and be happier for it because I'm pretty sure I caught a little tear in his eye at one point. With any movie, though, a few things were changed for dramatic effect. I won't say what but the they definitely didn't changed the overall feel of things. I will even go so far as to say they made it better. Basically, it's fantastic and I can't stop thinking about it.

I QUIT!

And I couldn't be happier! I put in my two weeks notice yesterday! Huzzah for me! No more stressful, miserable job. I'm looking forward to catching up on the things I love and then leisurely finding a new job that makes me happy. (Thankfully, the hubby is very understanding of me needing to do this.) The list of things I want to do when I get my freedom back is growing every second!

Including, but not limited to:

1. Finally finish the last three Harry Potter books so I am not a disgrace
to my family and friends anymore.
2. Catch up on my embroidery and craft projects.
3. Hang up pictures in my living room.
4. Paint my bathroom pink.
5. Volunteer at the children's hospital.
6. Cook supper more often.
7. Clean out all the clothes we no longer wear and take them to Goodwill.
8. See what all the fuss over Downton Abbey is about.
9. Snuggle with my little nuggy pup all day.
10. Wear sweatpants everyday.
11. Start working on my co-blog with the besties.

Seriously, could you leave this face every morning and be happy about it??

New additions to the Zoo

After years of collecting dust, I finally got my fish tanks up and running again this week. They are only little one gallon tanks but they are perfect homes for Betta Fish which just happen to be my favorite! Petco had a wide selection of bettas and after 45 minutes of hard decision making I finally picked out these two beautiful boys. The top one is a Crowntail Betta named Miyazaki Moonbeam. The bottom fish is a Veiltail Betta named Valentino Jitterbug. (Do I sound insane yet??? Just wait, there's more.) The Internets are very handy but once I get on idea in my head, I get obsessed and will Google said idea until I've read everything possible about it. Well, once I decided to get new Fancy Fish Boys I started doing research about Bettas so I could provide them with the best possible habitats. (Believe it or not, I have a big ole soft heart when it comes to animals. People, not so much, but I love animals.) I've had numerous Bettas in my lifetime and after doing some research I basically felt awful that my poor deceased Fabio, Indigo BlueJean and Sushi Glitterati didn't get the best treatment. Here's what I learned:

1) Betta fish can't stay still in the water when they sleep like other fish. They need to lay down. (Makes sense now why Fabio was always laying on the rocks, I thought my cat had given him brain damage.) They prefer to have a soft leaf to lay on. So of course, my crazy ass ordered 2 Betta hammocks on Amazon. I actually caught Valentino snoozing on a silk leaf this morning!

2) Bettas thrive in warm water. Preferably around 75 degrees. So I ordered two little tank heaters. (Thank you Amazon reward points!)

3) Bettas can suffer from many different ailments but there is a alot of medicine available. (Fish medicine, who knew?)

4) Male bettas blow bubble nests when they are breeding and they place the eggs/fry into the bubbles. However, a male betta that is super happy in his habitat may blow a nest even if there are no females present.

So basically, I'm a crazy person who easily gets obsessed. If I join a Betta club and start showing Bettas like prize winning horses, please lock me up. K? Thanks!

UPDATE:

My sweet Miyazaki Moonbeam went to the big fish tank in the sky. He's now been replaced with a gorgeous silver boy named Yuki Neptune. Hopefully he will be a heartier Betta. I also bought some baby bettas to try to raise! I've lost my mind!

Artist Alert!

My sweet hubby and I had a 3 day getaway in New Orleans this weekend. It's by far our favorite place to run away to! (It helps that it's only 3 hours away!) Our main reason for the trip was to attend a burlesque show (Which was awesome! But more on that later.) but we also were hunting for great local art to hang in the house. We ended up only buying one piece but we wandered in and out of dozens of art galleries. Most were grossly out of our price range but hey! They are like little museums. We were lucky enough to find a great gallery that housed a few Picasso's, Dali's and Chagall's but my most favoritest (Yes, I know that's not a real word!) artist of all was a local artist, Sarah Ashley Longshore. Her works were enormous and colorful and pop art, which I'm quite keen on. I would basically hock my house for one of her pieces. She also seems incredibly cool (of course, I googled her balls off!) She is a designer for Anthropologie among other nifty things! I wish I could post a pic of the pieces from the gallery because one was so bad ass that it had gummi bears and Storm Troopers. However, here are a few amazing pics I've been able to find on the Internets and her lovely website sarahashleylongshore.com . Enjoy!

She's fabulous!

Flo

Doing some serious girl crushin' this week on Miss Florence Welch. (Florence + the Machine, Duh!)
She's beautiful and gives me the willies at the same time.
Her witchy voices makes me want to strip naked and chant in the forest.
I'm pretty sure her clothes are made in an eerie hazy dreamscape somewhere.

Bear With Me

Today has been beyond annoying. So I feel like complaining, and if you can't complain on your own blog then where can you complain???

1. School is a bitch.
2. I have personal health shenanigans..
3. I am battling gnats at work.
4. My dog tore my earring hole a little and it won't heal!
5. My pants have stretched out over the day and keep sliding off my butt, therefore making my panties slide down too!
6. It's August in Mississippi. I'm sweating like it's my job.
7. The damn ladder is STILL in my bathroom!
8. I fell asleep early last night and ruined my plans to craft and do girl things.
9. I'm backlogged at work due to the branch offices not working two days during the hurricane.
10. Did I mention there are gnats flying full speed at my face?? I'm a human windshield!
11. My dog refuses to be trained to walk on a leash.
12. I have a multitude of new books and no time to read them.
13. My phone just died and I don't have a charger.
14. I want to do hood rat thangs with my frands! But alas, I have no time.
15. My new face primer makes my face feel slimy and weird.
16. I have to take short lunches this week and can't go home and see my nugget.
17. Speaking of nuggets, how the hey is Snookie's baby so freaking cute??
18. I accidentally locked two of my cats in a bedroom all night and I'm afraid when I get home they will have revenge pooped on something I like.
19. I attempted to take home my 5 tiny cactus plants last night but ended up dumping them in the floor and I'm pretty sure they are going to die.
20. I have cactus needles stuck in my fingers from cleaning up the mess.
21. Almost all the ceiling bulbs have blown out at my house and my hubby hasn't replaced them. It's like living in a cave.
22. I have an irrational fear of ladders and can't change them myself.
23. I also have an irrational fear of caves. And being kidnapped.
24. I just realized I forgot to put my lipstick on today.
25. I have numerous pairs of panties with holes in the. Some of them are my favorites!

Ok that's probably enough. I'm sure you're thinking these sound like champagne problems, but there are 25!!! Even champagne problems start to wear on a girl when there's that many!

All Hail The Queen

I advocate glamour. Every day. Every minute.

She's so flawless that I suspect she might be a Fembot.
Seriously, you'd have to be blind to not envy everything Dita has ever worn.

Watercolors, landscapes and a few nudes.

It finally happened!! I finally got to see Moonrise Kingdom! "Was it worth the wait?", you say. Abso-freaking-lutely! It's possibly my new favorite Wes Anderson. I hate to hear that a movie is a "feel good" flick but this one really did make me feel good. The nostalgia of first loves and young hearts made me miss my myriad of junior high boyfriends. Sam and Susie (the main characters) are the perfect definition of young love.

"No, What kind of bird are YOU?'

This also might be the funniest of all Mr. Anderson's movies. Not crazy fall in the floor funny of course, but I definitely chuckled more than usual. The only thing this movie lacked was a Wilson brother. As adorable as they are, this movie benefitted from a few fresh faces. Edward Norton was perfectly neurotic and I think I might love Bruce Willis a little now. I wish I could be confident in prematurely saying that this is my favorite movie of the year, but let's be serious.
These guys

just can't out dance these guys!

Weekend Update

This weekend I got to spend time with two of my favorite girls (3 if you count Weetzie!). Despite the steamy Memphis heat we still managed to jam pack the weekend with lots of silliness and a ridiculous amout of good food. Sometimes a good girls only weekend is much needed and this one was LONG overdue.
(clockwise)
1. Christy and Weetzie, before Magic Mike. (which was the best movie you could ever watch with your GF's)
2. My fabulous manicure and nail art.
3. Wise words on the bathroom wall of The Beauty Shop restaurant.
4. Me and Lizzie after a hot day of thrifting.

Have a Seat

After almost a year and a half of marriage I have finally gotten the house decorating bug.(We can all thank Pinterest for that one.) The first step was to re-paint the hideous walls in the kitchen and living room. Our house had the misfortune of being "decorated" by a Trading Spaces decorator and well there's never been anything on Trading Spaces that wasn't tacky so you can imagine what I was/am dealing with. So two paint jobs, a new rug and a coffee table later my house is finally starting to look inhabited. A few of the projects I'm working on are:

1) Repainting old frames so we can make a wall collage.

I love the organized chaos of it all.

2) Repainting and finding lampshades for some fun vintage lamps my Nana gave to me.
3) Collecting and hanging plates on the wall in the kitchen like this:

4) Technically I'm not working on this one quite yet, but as soon as I find a way to get my chairs to my house I plan to re-paint and re-cover the seats of 7 matching dining room chairs but all in different bright patterns. Somewhat like this:

I can't wait to start working on these chairs. We desperately need extra seating when we have our families over and who doesn't love a fun chair??

Thankfully, I was lucky enough to have someone give me a set of chairs to play with but here are a few of my faves from Etsy that planted the seed in my crafty brain.

Hopefully, I can cram at least one chair in my tiny car this weekend when I swing through my hometown. I can't wait to get started!

Over It

A photo journal of the things I am beyond tired of hearing about. Enjoy.

Kim and Kanye
There can't be more than 10 people worldwide that buy into this relationship.
I have no doubt though that Kanye knows everything about Kim (as she told Oprah). She has a sex tape, a reality show, and a very public wedding/divorce, the whole world knows everything about this moron. And could y'all PLEASE stop wearing those damn leather pants all the time!

Pippa Middleton
The Royal Wedding was fun and all but it's been a year and I frankly don't want to see anymore of Kate's nobody sister (or Kate really, for that matter). Hello! This is America, we've got enough fake celebrities. We don't need to import them.

Reality Singing Shows

American Idol, The Voice, X-Factor etc., I'm talking to you.
Has no one realized that if these "talented singers" were actually any good that someone would've discovered and made them famous already? Do we really need to hear them butcher songs that we love to prove this point?

Tim Tebow
1. Sand is more interesting.

2. Sand is more handsome.
3. Don't even get me started on his anti-abortion commercials with his Mommy.
(When the day comes and men can push babies out of their Britneys THEN he can have an opinion. There are too many different situations that woman get put into (rape, incest, molestation & sex trafficking just to name a few) and as a Christian I would hope he wouldn't pass judgement on things he does not understand. He needs to stick to the things he knows, which is balls, and not make mis-informed political statements.)

Phew, sorry! Got a bit ranty on that one!

To Russia, with Love

One of my most prized possessions is an authentic Russian stacking doll that my mom brought back to me as a souvenir from her trip to Alaska. (Hopefully, everyone knows that Alaska was purchased from Russia back in the day, so many of the smaller villages are still thick with Russian culture.) Although this was a gorgeous gift that anyone would admire and be thrilled to receive, it meant much more to me.

Everyone has their thing they like. Some people like penguins, for some reason frogs seem to be popular, horses, etc... Well my thing happens to be stacking dolls (and the occasional seahorse). If I ever see a mermaid themed stacking doll riding a seahorse, I'll possibly faint.

My fascination started when I was much younger. Every year around Christmas when my mom and I would go to the mall to do our holiday shopping we would always spend a ridiculous amount of time in one particular home store (Kirkland's to be exact) buying picture frames, pillows, candle holders and other similar items. It never failed, every year right on the front table in Kirkland's there would be a Santa themed stacking doll. To my under 10 little heart it was about the most interesting, beautiful thing I had ever laid eyes on. Each Santa opened up to reveal a different Santa from around the world and in the very center was a teeny tiny miniature one. (I also have quite a thing for all things small and tiny.) It was shiny and smooth and I shamelessly begged for it. For whatever reason, Mama always said no. I'm sure it was crazy over priced and she probably couldn't imagine what I would do with it. Honestly, I don't know what I would've done with it either. Good ole Santa would've been a horrible addition to my Barbie collection. But regardless, I wanted it. So I would cry and cry (not in a bratty, kicking and screaming way, more of a pitiful "my best friend is moving away" kind of sob) until I got distracted in the Hello Kitty store. But every year there would be my Santa. So you can imagine my reaction a good 15+ years later when my sweet Mama returned home with the most gorgeous Matroyshka I've ever seen. Yup, I cried. It's a hand painted, gold, blue and rose colored beauty who tells the traditional Russian folk story of Peter and the Wolf on the bellies of all the dolls. Needless to say, she was definitely worth the wait and much prettier than Santa ever could be.

Sadly, I only have 3 dolls in my collection. It seems like most of the ones I see for sale these days have a variety of different themes and have less of the traditional Babushka look. Here are some of my most favorite traditional AND themed ones. Maybe I should consider adding to my collection pretty soon.
