If you haven't heard of these drinks before, they are a blended ice drink similar in texture to a smoothie usually with a tea base, milk and whatever flavor you choose. Green tea seems to be a popular flavor, although fruit flavors are available too. (My friend loves the red bean ones!) In the bottom of the drink are chewy tapioca balls or "pearls". You get an extra large straw and when you drink your beverage you suck up the pearls.
I'll admit it doesn't sound terribly appetizing but I'll try anything once. So I go to this store with my sweet husband in tow, who has already refused to have one. I get there, get all psyched up and find out that the Boba teas are only served on the weekend. The closest thing to it was a Jelly Tea Smoothie thing. (I'm uncertain of the precise name). It's somewhat similar. You pick a flavor for the smoothie part and you have little balls of juice in the bottom of the cup instead of the tapioca pearls. The juice balls came in three flavors, lychee, strawberry and passionfruit. I opted for a lemon smoothie with strawberry juice balls and let me tell you something, IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!!!!!! Holy moly it was so good! I'm not a huge smoothie fan but thankfully it was ice, milk and lemon puree instead of big chunks of fruit and the juice balls had a wonderful flavor! Refreshing lemon flavor with strawberry explosions in every drink! Hubby was stealing sips every time I turned my head. One day he's going to learn that I am a master at ordering food and just give in. (We had a similar occurence at Gray's Papaya in NYC. He went for a plain dog with mustard and ketchup, while I had mine fully loaded. Onions, sauerkraut, mustard and scrumptious! Big mistake on his part.)
I literally am counting the minutes until I get off so I can go get another one. I'm going to try a new flavor though. They had close to twenty. Maybe mango? Green tea?
Tastiness from Berry Berry Good in Flowood.
