One of the beauties of being young and childless is that you don't have to cook every night. You don't have to worry if your family is getting all the nutrients and vitamins they need everyday. Now don't get me wrong, I love to cook scumptious meals for my husband but sometimes we take the easy route. Sometimes the easy route is going out for dinner, or ordering chinese. Last night, like so many easy nights, was a cheese plate supper. We usually make it a red wine and cheese plate supper but no alcohol for me right now thanks to some lovely medicine I've been taking.
My love affair with cheese has basically been life long whereas my husband was still buying Velvetta single slices up until a few months ago (Disgusting! Confession, I'm a little bit of a cheese snob.) While he still says that he loves that wiggly pieces of plastic wrapped Velvetta, he definitely has opened his eyes to the wide world of wonderful cheese and has even picked up new kinds to try at the grocery store! (He makes me so proud sometimes!) Truthfully, I haven't met a cheese that I didn't like but there are a few he doesn't care to taste again. Mostly, brie. Some of our constant favorites are on the plate below.
Clockwise from the the sausage bites at the top (because Micah says "I'm a man, I need meat.") we have garlic and herb goat cheese, smoked gouda, garlic and dill cheddar and extra sharp cheddar. I know, I know, there's a lot of garlic on that plate. Sue me, it's my favorite. Garlic makes everything tastier.
Maybe I'll pick up some more varieties tonight and go for a cheese plate supper two nights in a row!
